Homemade Chai Recipe

So, it has been over 5 months now I have limited my coffee intake to once a week, if that. I no longer crave coffee and when in a cafe, a chai latte, matcha latte, green tea or turmeric latte is what first comes to the tastebuds. When living in Bali at the beginning of this year my friend Sonu who I spent most of the end of the trip with always had a pot of chai simmering away over the stove. Brewing it this way does take longer but it is so much better then purchasing those packets of pre-made chai mixes or powders that contain added doses of sugars and preservatives. So, here is a simple recipe for these wintery mornings in Aus or wherever you are in the world!



6 cloves

6 Cardamon pods (smashed)

1 cinnamon stick

6 pieces chopped up ginger

1 teaspoon brown coconut sugar (optional)

1 cup nut milk (my preference is almond or cashew milk)



Bring the milk to simmer in a pot over the stove (not boiling). Add all ingredients and allow to simmer for 10-15 minutes or so (taste to bring to the sweetness/spiciness you desire). Drain contents of spices from liquid and serve in your favourite mug! Enjoy!
